Scholarship

Applications have closed for 2024. Athletes can still apply but will be placed on a waitlist in the event a position becomes available. 

Scholarship applications will be open between the 12th of February and the 4th of March 2024. 

Athlete eligibility:

Applications can be submitted by individual athletes who must:

  • Be competing at a state level or higher.

  • Be involved in a recognised program that is part of their sport’s state or national pathway.

  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Be 13-21 years of age, as of 1st April 2024.

  • Permanently reside in Western Australia.

  • Be a current registered member of a club or association that is affiliated with a State Sporting Association (SSA) deemed eligible by PSRN.

  • Must be classified by PRAS as a Peel based athlete.

    • must reside in the Peel region or

    • be a member of a Peel based club or

    • attend school in the Peel region or

    • be coached by a Peel based coach

Assessment criteria:

Athletes who meet all points in the section above and are selected* to represent their region, Western Australia or Australia in SSA/National Sporting Organisation (NSO) sanctioned state, national or international talent championships/events, within the past 12 months will be eligible to apply for support through the Peel Regional Academy of Sports. 

* Selection refers to a process whereby a clearly defined performance criteria is applied to select only the highest performing athletes onto a squad/team, within the athlete development pathway** controlled by the recognised SSA/NSO, and no element of chance is applied to that selection process.

** The sport’s pathway is determined by those events and competitions that complement the progression of the athlete towards National representation. It refers specifically to what is recognised by the SSA and the NSO as the milestone events that it is critical for athletes to participate in, in order to progress along that pathway.
 

What is the application process?

  • Applicants should read and understand the application guidelines before commencing the application process

  • Applicants should direct any initial queries to the Peel Regional Academy of Sports

  • Applications must be submitted using the application form through the link below

  • All applications must be lodged with PRAS by midnight on the published closing date.
    No late applications will be accepted

How will applications be assessed?

State-wide assessment

  • PRAS will contact the SSA to validate that the information relating to the athlete’s performance level is accurate

  • PRAS will assess applications based on the eligibility criteria and performance categories framework

  • SSA's will rank athletes based on performance 

  • The assessment decision is final and no appeal regarding a decision will be addressed

Notification

  • Both successful and unsuccessful athletes will be notified by email.
